vukov spomenik stanica

The Belgrade metro has been a dream since the 1950s.

In 1995, the station below Vukov Spomenik opened.

Whilst the metro remains an aspiration, the station is very real.

And very impressive.

Easy to miss, there are no signs at street level to alert you to the beauty that lies below.

In an earlier post, I referred to the different worlds below belgradestreets in Vukov Spomenik.

An underground vision of the future for the city?

A white elephant?

Whichever, I urge you to head underground when you visit belgradestreets.

  1. Very nice set with some under difficult lighting. I love the header crop of the escalator as well as view 2. I like also the varied treatment of your photos. Thanks.

  2. Thanks again John, I was a bit spooked after my “wrong turn” moment for the previous post, so these were taken in a bit of a hurry…has become something of a theme recently as I seek out those more unseen corners!
