angels and demons

Graffiti provokes a response.

Emotional. Visceral. Basic. A cry.

These belgradestreets; the people who live, love and work here, provoke me.

Graffiti enrages, captures, beguiles us.

I’d like to share a line of poetry, and a heartfelt thank you…

“For beauty is nothing but the beginning of terror
which we are still just able to endure,
and we are so awed because it serenely disdains to annihilate us.
Every angel is terrifying.”

Poetry from Duino Elegies by Rainer Maria Rilke, The First Elegy

Nowhere to hide

Nowhere to hide

The harder path

The harder path

Pipe dreams

Pipe dreams

Mine, all mine

Mine, all mine

Hope is never lost

Hope is never lost

Terrible angel

Terrible angel

They keep changing – are they? I haven’t seen the first one in January.

There is always something new there, documenting the graffiti on belgradestreets could be the work of a lifetime… :-)

Mike, thank you, photographing this, and making a point, is hard as it is a “tourist” destination here…so appreciate your comment…
